Most traditional psychological treatments for chronic pain, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness-based stress reduction, have emphasized pain management. Recently, a new class of treatments has emerged aiming for pain recovery – this includes pain reprocessing therapy (PRT) and related approachesThis 1-hour lecture defines the critical features distinguishing pain recovery therapies from pain management therapies, including practical tools for helping patients recover from chronic pain.

In response to considerable feedback surrounding these more recently developed pain recovery therapies, such as PRT, emotional awareness and expression therapy (EAET), and other exposure-based approaches, we are pleased to offer this complimentary, 1-hour training course. ACCME accreditation offers one CME to Physicians and APA accreditation offers one CEU to Psychologists.

The lecture is taught by Yoni K. Ashar, PhD, Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine at University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Objectives of this free training include:

  • Describing a new class of psychological treatments for chronic pain known as pain recovery therapies.
  • Identifying the key features distinguishing pain recovery therapies from more traditional pain management approaches.
  • Learning practical tools for promoting recovery from chronic pain.
